Faucet II

Faucet II - South Falls, Silver Falls State Park Oregon. The geologic story of the park starts around 15 million years ago. One of the largest flood basalt flows ever to appear on earth covered the Pacific Northwest including parts of Oregon. The waters that flow through the canyon here slowly began to erode this hard basaltic rock. Then more quickly began eroding the softer layers of sandstone beneath, creating natural amphitheaters, caves, and pathways behind four out of the ten waterfalls found here.
