After The Storm - Ubehebe Crater
Although the date of image capture was back in 2011, It wasn't untill recently that I had the final picture in my minds eye. Sometimes I shoot, but the inspiration for the finished piece doesn't present itself untill much later. In this case, it took four years.

Red Rock - Hagen Canyon, Red Rock Canyon Natural Preserve, California. Approximately 10 million years old, these sculpted badlands are exposed dramaticly below a volcanic basalt flow cap whose dark black rubble lies over the entire area.

Flower Power - Birdcage Evening Primrose, springtime in the Valley of Fire. Astounding how these delicate flowers can thrive in a sand dune environment. When these plants die, their stems curl upward and form a "birdcage". You can see a couple of these in the background.

Red Rock Abstract- Red Rock Canyon State Park, Nevada. 250 million years ago sediment layers that were once at the bottom of an ocean were raised up through tetonic plate action. Once exposed to the air, rocks in this former sea bed began to rust. Creating the red, and orange bands seen in the hills, and in the boulder group here at the base of Pine Creek Canyon.

Ubehebe Crater - Death Valley
Ubehebe Crater - Death Valley. Once thought to have occurred many thousands of years ago, current studies are beginning to point to this being a fairly recent event. The explosion of subterranean volcanic gases may have occurred only 800 years ago.
